The School Council held a meeting today to discuss ways to improve our playground , especially in the junior department. We were very privilged to have people from outside agencies to join us who included, Mr C. Gregory (Youth of Betws), Mrs A. Lewis (Wales and West Housing), Mrs S. Davies (Flying Start),Mrs R. Lewis (Communities First) and Mr R. Jamil( Reach Rural Development Programme). We walked around the playgrounds discussing ways to improve the areas, it was a very positive meeting and the school council members fed back the information to their classes. We will keep you updated!

Travel plan questionnaires

The school council held their meeting today26th April and many children are concerned about how we travel to and from school. A travel questionnaire will be sent home and if you could fill it i,n we can then analyse the data and perhaps look at ways that can be improved.

The Listening Bus visits Betws!

This term, Betws was fortunate enough to be visited by the travelling Listening Bus which is a very informative experience and offers children a chance to really appreciate the challenges of having a hearing impairment. The listening bus was based at the Life Centre and throughout the course of a day, Betws Primary visited the bus, class by class. A lot of fun was had by all and it was unanimously agreed that we had all learnt a great deal. Well done!

A BIG thank you! we raised £94 on wear trainers day!

We had a fantastic day 16th March when all the children and staff wore trainers. The infant children walked around the yard and the junior children walked a mile around the school grounds. A massive thankyou for all your support, we raised an astounding £94 from collecting loose change. Mrs Matchett has very kindly agreed to find money from the school fund and match that sum and add a little bit more to make it £200 ! The school council are now looking through various catalogues to find suitable equipment that may be purchased to use in our playgrounds. We will keep the updated on developments!

School Trip to Margam Park

What a day! Nursery, Reception, Yr 1 and Yr 2 all visited Margam Park today and had a great day exploring the surroundings.

BIG PIT TRIP Year 5/6

Today saw our topical trip to Big Pit. Big Pit is situated around 10 miles north of Newport and is now a world heritage site. Year 5 and 6 had a hands on experience of what mining is and what it would have been like to work down the mines all those years ago. Our children also had the chance to meet Maggie Morgan who gave us first hands experiences of what the work conditions were like and what it was like growing up as a child in the mines. Many of our pupils were in total shock with the regards to the working conditions down the mines and itmade us all very thankful of our own lives and what we have today. Dave Penny Jones Visits Betws Primary

Dave Penny Jones joined us here at Betws Primary today for our ICT INSET. All members of staff were able to brush up on ICT skills such as data handling and maths within ICT. Dave was a great host and showed all members of staff many different ways and how to apply ICT effectively across these subject areas.
