After the BIG clean up operation and the laying of the paths, it was time to challenge the BIGGER clean up operation of our pond. First of all we had to clear away all the fallen leave and sticks that were in the pond. Once this was done, (which took a very long time) we had to enpty the pond. The water had been in  the pond since last years clean up so it was very stagnant and smelly, so we made sure that we all washed our hands after draining it. During this process we were very lucky because we found 5 neuwts- all of which were handled with extreme care. We boxed then up and decided that we should release them in the nature reserve.
